This meticulously restored Greek Revival house is situated well back from the road, since it was moved to its current location just after WW2. Older homes are rarely so well located since the original owners did not wish to spend their time doing snow removal, and the roads were more cart tracks than black top wonders. We digress. The original part of the house dates to 1781. Colonel Herrick, a hero of the American War of Independence purchased the land for 700 pounds which was no small sum of money. Over the years the house was expanded, including recently when a 2200 sq. ft. wing was added for mud room, guest rooms, offices and garaging.
On entering the main part of the house from the mud room, you are welcomed by a generously sized country kitchen, with seating area, dining table near the fire for casual family dining, and a truly sensational kitchen area. From the butler's pantry; he is not included in the offering price, one enters the formal reception rooms. A formal dining room with one of the seven rebuilt fireplaces. Across the center hall is a double parlor with two fireplaces and pocket doors dividing. There is a small gathering room with coffered ceiling, library with wet bar attached. The upper floor contains the six bedrooms, two of which are master suites, with European style bathrooms, and four other bedrooms. The views from the private balcony of one of the master suites is a lovely place to enjoy the morning light over breakfast. There is a laundry in the basement and on the second floor.
